Learn To Play
Learn to play where trainees start picking up interest in the sport. This is usually for trainees with no to a little background in badminton. At Extreme Badminton Academy, our goal for our trainees in the learn to play category is to teach them fundamental movement, basic skills and footwork of the badminton game. This includes the rules of the single/doubles badminton game and how to officiate their own match. During the process of learning, we want to create a safe and fun environment for trainees to learn and build a life-long interest in the sport.
Some fundamental movement includes running, skipping, hopping, jumping for height or distance, sidestepping, balancing, landing, throwing, catching and many more.
Basic skills include forehand/backhand grip, lobbing, drop shot, netting, lifting, forehand/backhand block and forehand/backhand service. At Extreme Badminton we teach our trainees using the blocked practice method which isolates one skill or movement. This allows the trainees to get the feeling of how the shot should feel like.
Footwork includes front back footwork, left to right footwork, V-shape backcourt footwork and V-shape front court footwork. The reason that it's essential to learn the right footwork can give you an upper hand on the opponent as it will make the game easier so that you can cover more areas of the court, change directions swiftly and reduce the chances of knee injuries or sprains.
